Magazzino magazine — Issue n.2 A LUCI SPENTE

Magazzino Magazine is an independent, self-published illustration magazine created by a growing collective of creatives. While each issue features a new theme and a dedicated color palette, for our second release we focused on the theme "A luci spente" (Lights Out). We decided to interpret this concept at every level: from the written articles to the illustrations, right down to the editorial design.
With this issue, we completely restyled the magazine by expanding the format, streamlining the typography, and creating a new internal signage system to clearly distinguish the different sections. Consistent with our independent ethos, we also chose to rely exclusively on open-license font families.
As a self-produced project, our graphic design always arises from the balance between limited financial resources and ambitious visual goals. We do not see a tight budget as a constraint, but as a creative parameter that pushes us to find smart and surprising solutions. The cover of Issue 2 perfectly embodies this philosophy: printed on raw black cardstock, we wanted a glossy UV varnish effect but didn't have the budget for it. Instead, we cleverly recreated the effect by printing registration black directly onto the black paper, finishing the artwork with a single, striking layer of white screen printing.
